What each program gets in FY 2026-27

The City budgets of General Fund money this year, all of it in its 28 programs.

General Fund program budgets, per $100 · FY 2026-27

  1. Police Services$37.23 of every $100

Lafayette's police are a contract with the Contra Costa County Sheriff: $6,454,458 of this program pays the Sheriff, and the City's latest financial report counts 16 contracted sworn officers. The program also pays for County animal control ($336,923). Much of the contract's 30.8% rise is a move, not new spending: this budget folds Traffic Enforcement and the Supplementary Law Enforcement fund into Police Services.

  28. FireNot in this budget

Fire service comes from the Contra Costa Consolidated Fire District, a separate district with its own budget, so none of its cost is in the City's budget.

  29. LibraryNot in this budget

The City contracts with Contra Costa County for its library. The City's own library costs are in a separate Library Operations fund, outside the General Fund, so they aren't in these squares.

Staff positions

Full-time-equivalent positions in the City's budget: in all. FTE counts budgeted positions, not people: a position budgeted at half time counts as 0.50, so the total can end in a fraction. The count covers regular positions; the City also employs temporary and seasonal staff who aren't counted.
